Ahh, Fall Weddings.  It’s getting to be that time of year when the seasonal change is welcome and simply beautiful.  Nature’s dramatic color pagentry in celebration of cool, crisp mornings presents a wonderful opportunity to get creative with your wedding welcome bags and baskets for your out-of-town wedding guests.

We’re going to look at a few fall wedding themed welcome gift basket ideas just to get your creativity churning And don’t tell me you don’t have any creativity – you’re getting married, right?  Or your child or friend is getting married, right?  And you’re thinking about their future together, right?  That’s creativity in and of itself, ma’am!

Our Wedding Welcome Bag or Wedding Welcome Basket themes for today (in no particular order):

  1. Apples
  2. Maples
  3. Football (I know, and I’m sorry.  But I guarantee there are at least 1 in 3 who read this that are marrying into a rabid football fanatic family of one genre or the other).
  4. Share (I’m going to require a bit more than just buying and bag-stuffing from you here – consider yourself warned).

I never figured out why fall was apple season, but it is – so let’s capitalize on it!  Our tiny “hallmark theme” favor for this basket is….

This exquisitely tiny apple candle will be the clever and precious little take-away for fond memories of your celebration.

Now let’s set up the basket!  Remember to shop your local dollar store for cute little baskets at cute little prices.  I’m thinking you will look for baskets in a natural color.

Buy some wood Excelsior at your local craft store (you’ll probably find it in the aisle with the dried foliage and flower stuff).

Buy several packages of those dried leaves that come packaged on branches.  You can also purchase a few dried lily pad pods or anything else you like from the dried floral aisle at Michaels or Hobby Lobby and the like.

Lay down a big, flat bedsheet on your work table or on the floor to catch all the “fall-out” (pun intended) from the basket set up.

Open the Excelsior and start pulling it apart to fluff it.  It goes much farther and looks much better if you fluff.

Put a handful or two (depending on the basket) into the bottom of the basket and fluff some more.

Pull off a few of the colorful dried leaves and tuck them in and around the edges of the basket – using the excelsior as a stablizing base.  Don’t try to create a pattern or anything here – we want it to look as if the leaves fluttered down from the trees into the baskets ;).

Now!  The base presentation is set to load in a few, thoughtful goodies…

Always add a map of your city – either buy one or make your own.  Your out of town wedding guests need to know where they’re going!

A Wedding Schedule, complete with telephone contact if somebody gets lost or has a question.

A bottle or two of water, some snack crackers and (drumroll)

Dried Apple Chips!  They’re quite tasty and if you click the pic, you can see where to order online if you can’t find ’em in the grocery store.

Now, throw in a tasty green apple and a tasty red apple (wash and polish, first, please) for more color and place your exquisitely tiny apple candle front and center.

Fluff the excelsior again so it looks all “nesty” and adjust your fall leaves so they’re just right.  At this point, if you chose to add more decorative dried stuff, tuck it in now.  Not too much, though.  You want it to look natural!  A piece or two is all you need.

This post is getting a bit long (I know you’re shocked).  So we’ll finish up this Fall Wedding Welcome Basket for now, and I’ll work on the other three in another post (stick-a-needle-in-my-eye promise!).

Let’s top this basket off with a big, sloppy bow made of fall-colored tulle on a roll.  You can get it in the Bridal Aisle at your craft store, and in most all fabric stores.  Cut a piece about 2-3 feet long (depending on the size of your basket), and tie a regular bow.  Fluff and twist it to your satisfaction, then attach a personalized card with you warm, fall wedding welcome to your guest.
